“Amir Khan reveals talks with KSI’s camp and opens the door to a shock fight after controversial Wayne Bridge bout collapses“
Former world champion boxer Amir Khan has called for a firm offer from KSI’s camp, expressing his willingness to step back into the ring while simultaneously casting doubt on the seriousness of the proposed bout. The 38-year-old, who retired in 2022 following a loss to Kell Brook, has been linked with a comeback fight against the YouTube star, but claims talks have yet to translate into a formal proposal.
Speaking exclusively to SunSport in Dubai, Khan stated, “That’s the thing I don’t understand. “They just call my name but they don’t wanna give an offer, you know what I mean? How can you really take something seriously if there’s no offer or they don’t want to talk? At the end of the day, we’re prize fighters, we talk numbers. If the numbers match, then yeah, it’s a fight. But if not, if it’s all just hype and talk, it’s not gonna work.””
He confirmed that preliminary discussions had taken place, adding, “Yeah, there were talks about it, and they asked me if I’d be up for it. Look, I’m a fighter. Every fighter is up for a fight, so yeah, let’s see.”
Khan’s last professional outing resulted in a sixth-round defeat to long-time rival Brook in February 2022, marking the end of his illustrious career. He also served a two-year ban after testing positive for the banned substance ostarine, although an independent tribunal ruled that he did not intentionally ingest the drug.
KSI, 31, has been inactive since his first professional loss to Tommy Fury in October 2023. He was initially slated for a two-on-one fight but withdrew due to injury. His planned return in March hit a snag after his intended opponent, former Chelsea footballer Wayne Bridge, pulled out following personal comments made by KSI.
Khan, with a professional record of 34-6, expressed his reservations about the potential matchup, stating, “It’s hard to motivate yourself for a fight like that because it’s not really a big, big fight. It’s a fight you’ll probably just lace them up for. But they did say they were interested in doing it—so let’s see.”
With both fighters seemingly open to the idea, the ball appears to be in KSI’s court to make a formal offer that meets Khan’s financial expectations. Whether this highly anticipated bout will materialize remains to be seen.
