New York, NY – The New York Giants have officially released quarterback Daniel Jones. The decision comes after a disappointing season for the former first-round pick, marked by inconsistent performances and a lack of significant improvement.
daniel jones, who was selected sixth overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, had been the Giants‘ starting quarterback for the past four seasons. However, his tenure was plagued by inconsistency and injuries. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, he was unable to consistently elevate the team to playoff contention.
The Giants’ decision to release daniel jones signals a change in direction for the franchise. With a new quarterback under center, the team hopes to turn the page and rebuild their offense.
“Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him. We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team,” Giants owner John Mara said in a statement.
“We are all disappointed in how things have worked out. We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him.”
Jones has struggled throughout the season with 2,070 passing yards, seven interceptions and just eight touchdowns.
He had openly speculated over his future, telling reporters on Thursday: “This season has been disappointing for all and of course I wish I could have done more.”
As Jones enters free agency, he will look for a new opportunity to prove himself and revive his NFL career.
